Feb. 3, 1959 has come to be known as "the day the music died" thanks to Don McLean's American Pie. Just after midnight that day, a chartered plane carrying singers Richie Valens, J.P. Richardson (the Big Bopper) and Buddy Holly crashed shortly after take-off from Clear Lake, Iowa.

I Just Might be the Lunatic You're Looking For, this Week on Come by the Hills!

No, Billy Joel hasn't gone Celtic or anything, but tomorrow night, there's going to be an interesting lunar event taking place. It's apparently called a Super Blood Wolf Moon, which is to say a full moon which is especially close to the earth and which is also in eclipse and so is red in appearance, and which occurs in January, the Wolf Moon being a name traditionally associated with the full moons of this month.

Remembering Peter Scanlon

It’s with both profound sadness and gratitude that I write this post to pay tribute to Peter Scanlon having just learned of his death.

Those who’ve been listening to Mushroom FM for some years will remember Peter’s distinctive Australian accent and his love of the early days of rock and roll, both of which were very much on display in the show he hosted for us, The Big Beat Radio Show. His grasp of that era was almost encyclopaedic in its depth.

We're Live Again, this Week on Come by the Hills!

You've waited and waited, putting up with encores and voice-tracked shows and all, and finally, we're ready for the first live show of the new year on Come by the Hills! We'll have all the usual features, great music, and yes, the unpredictability that comes with doing the show live!
