This week on Viva, the classical music show, we continue a journey begun last week with the work of Claude Debussy. French composers continue to live with recordings by Poulenc, Faure and Satie. As well as one big work by Debussy, Sonata for flute, viola and harp.

The Juke In The Back” focuses on the “soul that came before rock n’ roll,” the records that inspired Elvis, Buddy Holly, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and countless others.

There are many great Rock Bands whose first albums are widely considered to be their best. Meat Loaf’s Bat out of Hell, The Doors’ eponymous album, Guns N' Roses’ Appetite for Destruction, etc. All these artists had more hits, but they never quite reached the lofty peaks they summited with their debut albums.

This Friday you can tune into the very first episode of The Richter Scale, Live on Mushroom FM. Will this be the best episode of The Richter Scale there will ever be? Gee, I sure hope not, but it’s probably worth tuning in just in case.

What a blast it was to receive such a positive response to last week’s show which celebrated the great Tom Lehrer’s 89th birthday. And yes, I use the word “blast” in the context of this promo most deliberately! It’s nice to know so many of the Mushroom Crowd appreciates his irreverent humour and wit, along with his musical and literary genius.

One of the songs we played on last week’s show is an old favourite of mine, a song about nuclear annihilation done in the style of a rousing gospel hymn, called “We will all go together when we go”.
