Dame Vera Lynn has died aged 103. That is certainly a life well lived, and yet like many others her death has deeply saddened me.
Dame Vera was a part of the soundtrack of my childhood. My parents were fans, so I grew up listening to her music. I loved it then, and I love it now. Her pure voice, perfect diction, and plaintive songs of hope still move me. She has been a part of the soundtrack of my adulthood too, in particular, "We'll Meet Again" was played at the end of my dad's funeral service.
This week on the Doo-wop Corner we will play songs from the fifties and sixties featuring some famous and not so famous doo-wop groups and performers. We have some interesting information about the performers and more. Grab some harmony and join me under the street lamp on the Doo-wop Corner. Sundays 6:00-8:00pm est. and repeated on Saturdays 4:00am-6:00am est.
Kia ora koutou Mosen At Largers. As always I’ve been enjoying your contributions coming in ahead of this weekend’s show and am looking forward to putting the show together.
The Juke In The Back” focuses on the “soul that came before rock n’ roll,” the records that inspired Elvis, Buddy Holly, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and countless others.
This week on Deep Dive we share the music of Bet Midler, the Divine Miss M. We listen to a wide variety of her songs, both live and in the studio, and talk about my friend Julie who was a great fan.
We also experiment by taking the Backpack Studio out onto the balcony for this show.
Join me on Monday at 4 PM Eastern, 6 AM Tuesday in Eastern Australia. Or at 6 AM Eastern on Wednesday, 8 PM in Australia.
