Movie 1: The Haunting (1963)

The Haunting (1963) is a classic supernatural horror film directed by Robert Wise and based on Shirley Jackson's 1959 novel The Haunting of Hill House. The story follows Dr John Markway, an investigator of paranormal activity who assembles a small group of people to investigate Hill House, an enormous mansion with a disturbing history. Among the group are Eleanor Lance, a shy and emotionally troubled woman who has spent much of her life caring for her mother; Theodora, an artistic and confident woman; and Luke Sanderson, the young heir to the property. As the group settles into the mansion, strange noises, unexplained movements and terrifying disturbances begin to occur. Eleanor becomes increasingly affected by the house, while the others struggle to understand the mysterious events taking place around them. As the investigation continues, the mansion's sinister influence grows, creating an atmosphere of psychological terror and suspense. Directed by Robert Wise, The Haunting is widely regarded as one of the finest supernatural horror films ever made. Rather than relying on graphic violence, the film uses atmosphere, sound and suggestion to create a deeply unsettling experience. Its influence on the horror genre has continued for generations.

Movie 2: Friday the 13th (1980)

Friday the 13th (1980) is a landmark slasher horror film directed by Sean S. Cunningham and one of the most influential entries in the history of the horror genre. The story takes place at Camp Crystal Lake, a summer camp with a tragic history. Years earlier, a young boy named Jason Voorhees drowned in the lake while the camp's counsellors were distracted. Despite warnings from the locals about the camp's troubled past, a group of young counsellors arrive to prepare the property for reopening. However, their plans quickly turn into a nightmare when an unseen killer begins stalking and murdering them one by one. As the counsellors disappear, fear and suspicion spread throughout the camp, and the remaining survivors struggle to discover who is responsible. The film builds suspense through a series of terrifying encounters and shocking moments, culminating in a memorable and unexpected revelation. Featuring a cast including Betsy Palmer, Adrienne King and a young Kevin Bacon, Friday the 13th became a major commercial success and helped establish many of the conventions of the slasher genre. It also launched one of horror cinema's most successful franchises, which would continue with numerous sequels and spin-offs.
