On 17 December 2017, we broadcast our holiday countdown and Christmas party. It was the culmination of a two-week voting process, in which voters nominated over 200 of their favourite holiday songs.

On that Sunday, we all got together to hear the top 100, and to share some holiday cheer via email and Twitter. Thanks to everyone's participation, it was an unforgettable day, a party in true Mushroom FM tradition.

I hope you're enjoying the Christmas Countdown and I hope the songs you voted for will be at the top of the chart. We'll know by the time The Early Years is on. It's an abbreviated show tonight to allow the countdown the time to complete. When it does, I have A Christmas Gift For you; a radio documentary about the making of what many rock musicologists consider to be the first complete rock and roll Christmas album, Phil Spector's My Christmas Gift For You. It's narrated by American author and music critic, Anthony DeCurtis.

Don't worry. This episode does not have anything whatever to do with Game of Thrones. However, it does have to do with winter. We're going to hear lots of songs about holly and ivy, snow and frost, and all in honour of the shortest day of the year in the northern hemisphere. It's coming up soon, you know, and we have lots of snow here in Ontario, so we're going to curl up in the warm and hear songs about the cold.

How cool that it’s that time of year again! We’re excited! Mushroom FM's 2017 holiday countdown and Christmas party is tomorrow! Starting at 9 AM US Eastern time, 2 PM UK, we'll be counting down the top 100 holiday songs as chosen by you

While we all enjoy the festive tunes, our virtual online Christmas party puts those who have voted in the countdown at Christmas tables, named after the first four reindeer in 'Twas the night before Christmas.

We’re cutting over to Canada for an interview with fun guy Steve Cutway on this week’s “A Cuppa at the Mosens” Thursday 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. EST on mushroomfm.com and in all your fav music apps. Steve was scheduled to be on the show a few weeks back, but due to technical issues-- on our end, the show had to be cancelled. Barring any unusual events this time, we will talk with Steve about his long history in broadcasting and assistive technology, and his show “The Early Years” which airs each Sunday following “The Mosen Explosion.”

Time is now extremely limited for you to cast your vote in Mushroom FM’s holiday countdown. Without giving anything away, I can tell you that the top of this year’s chart is really close, and your vote will make a difference.

The Juke In The Back” focuses on the “soul that came before rock n’ roll,” the records that inspired Elvis, Buddy Holly, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and countless others.

Last week, I was late with my reminder because I was madly scrambling to get ready for the big switch. What was the big switch you ask? Well, you'll just have to join me in The Early Years to find out what happened. I'm late again today with my reminder but I can't use last week's excuse again.
When Jonathan says "goodbye" for another week tonight at 6 PM Eastern, or the Mushroom Pot relinquishes control to me on Wednesday morning at 7 AM Eastern, don't touch your internet device and stay tuned for The Early Years on Mushroom FM, the

Yes, we've got more Celtic Christmas carols this week. We're slowly increasing the amount of festive music over the next few weeks. Anticipation is the best thing about this season, I find. We've got a Christmas "Celtic Cover" and lots of other great music as well. In other words, it's another three hours of Come by the Hills again on Mushroom FM! So, come and join us on Sunday after Steve and The Early Years, or on Friday following the morning edition of The Smorgasbord!
