This week on Mosen At Large, the show prepares to go podcast-only, what’s the Apple Accessibility number for, employment matters and Scribe for Meetings.

Kia ora Mosen at Largers.

This weekend’s show is the last that will be aired in the live format on Mushroom FM, Clubhouse, YouTube and Facebook. After this next show, Mosen At Large will be available only as a podcast and I will be vacating the Saturday Mushroom FM slot. I’ll explain the reason for the change and look to plenty more good times ahead. So if you’re not equipped already, be sure to head on over to http://mosen.org and learn about all the ways you can hear the podcast.

One of the topics we’ll be talking about this week has evolved totally organically, with three separate contributions on a critical topic, employment. Have you ever landed that big job interview only to be confronted with an assessment tool as part of the application process that is either inaccessible, or puts you as a blind person at a disadvantage? How common is it, and how did you handle the situation? We’ll also discuss whether artificial intelligent algorithms now used in candidate selection are helping or hindering disabled people.

You may well have heard of Microsoft’s fantastic Disability Answer Desk. I use it myself when things get really tricky with any Microsoft thing I own, whether the problem I’m having is accessibility-related or not. That’s because the Disability Answer Desk people are trained to work with screen reader users. I have always assumed that Apple’s accessibility line worked similarly. But recently, a listener was told she should only contact the accessibility number at Apple if the issue she had was specifically accessibility related. Have others been told this, and if so, how capable are general Apple Support people when it comes to assisting blind customers?

I personally absolutely love the increase in online meetings rather than in-person ones. But there is something that can be a real pain, and that’s when someone shares their screen and runs a presentation that’s inaccessible to you. Scribe for Meetings from Pneuma Solutions is a really cool way of dealing with this problem. We’ll talk with Mike Calvo and Matt Campbell about the product, and then in a crazy bit of audio production, I’ll use two computers to demo how this works. I tell you, the things I’m willing to do for the Mosen at Largers.

As usual, there’s a wide array of blindness and technology topics from listeners on which you may like to comment once you hear them.

If you want to raise something new, you’re very welcome.

Getting your contributions in ahead of time leaves you free to hear the show, and gives me a chance to organise them all, so go for it. Please don’t be shy, I’d love to hear from you. To contribute, send an email with an audio attachment or just written down to Jonathan at MushroomFM.com, or call the listener line, +18646066736, that’s 1-864-60Mosen.

The best way to hear Mosen At Large is when it airs live and in full. Catch it on Mushroom FM, either on the station itself or in the Mushroom FM club on Clubhouse, the Mosen At Large YouTube channel and the Mosen At Large Facebook page on Saturdays at 2 PM Eastern, that’s 7 PM in the UK. It will then be available in abridged form on the Mosen At Large podcast, available anywhere you get podcasts. If you RSVP to the event on Clubhouse, you’ll be sent a notification when it starts, plus you’ll be helping to spread the word to your followers, so we really appreciate the RSVP there.

Thank you so much for listening and contributing to the show and see you soon for Mosen At Large.
