On this week's "A Cuppa at the Mosens" we enter the classroom for a candid discussion on education
On this week’s “A Cuppa at the Mosens” Thursday 9:00 – 11:00 p.m. EST on www.mushroomfm.com and in all your fav music apps, we enter the classroom for a candid discussion on learning as a blind student.
“We don’t need no education.” This humourous line from a Pink Floyd song has brought many a smile and chuckle to schoolchildren and adults everywhere. Sadly, for many blind people this seems to be the sentiment of school systems and educators. Due to budget cuts, lack of qualified teachers, or apathy on the part of the blind student, parent, and teachers alike, many blind children have been left behind when it comes to their sighted classmates.
Residential school’s vs mainstream, lack of Braille instruction, and the different attitudes in school districts regarding following federal laws on educating students with disabilities will be just some of the topics covered.
We can’t have the show without you, so we want to hear your experiences—positive or negative.
Do you feel you got a quality education that prepared you for post-secondary training or work? What would you do differently? Do you feel the blind youth of today are better prepared or have it too easy in some circumstances?
