This week on The Mosen Explosion, hackery, hate speech, Monopoly and more
Another Mosen Explosion is rapidly rolling around. Or if you prefer that infinitives not be split, a view with which I have sympathy, another Mosen Explosion is rolling around rapidly! However you phrase it, it’ll be on again at 2 PM Eastern, 7 PM UK, 8 AM in New Zealand. That’s the last time I’ll be able to say that for a while as times start to change around the world.
I’ll be talking about something I originally thought I wouldn’t discuss publicly, but then I realised that doing so might help someone else. This week, I got hacked. I’ll explain how and why, and I suspect it won’t be what you’re expecting.
A couple of weeks ago, I talked on the show about cyber-bullying, a topic which resonated with a lot of people. As we approach an extremely difficult anniversary here in New Zealand, the first anniversary of the Christchurch mosque attacks, I’ll be reflecting on how viol acts of hatred often start with words, that the Internet is a powerful vehicle for amplifying those words, and that’s why we all have a personal responsibility to call out and stamp out hate speech when we find it.
On the lighter side, it says here in my little book of history that on 7 March 1933, the game of Monopoly was invented. Now as everyone who has listened to this show for a while will be aware, I am the world blind Monopoly champion. Self-proclaimed I admit, but that’s only because we have yet to have a world blind Monopoly competition. Were there to be one, I would be it. That I can tell you!
I’ve played various Monopoly games over the years, some with a computer and some without. I’d be interested in hearing about different ways you’ve played Monopoly. One of my frustrations is that we don’t have an accessible way to play Monopoly online that follows the official rules. Bah! There are quite a few innovative rule variations out there, and I’d be interested to hear of any used when you play.
We have our usual healthy doses of listener comments including tech questions and comments in the mix, Bonnie will be back with her bulletin, and there’ll be some fabulous music in the mix as well.
It’s the show that entertains you, informs you and makes you think, all in three action-packed hours. See you for The Mosen Explosion on Mushroom FM.
