Why I Do It

What does it mean, to have your own radio show? For me, it is the high point of my week.
I, the Snowman, am a retired engineer, now living the good life, a life of mostly leisure and freedom, to pursue what interests me. While still working, I did other things in life, in order to make a more lucrative living. But, radio broadcasting has always been my passion.
So, the oppertunity to broadcast on MushroomFM is a real privilege for me.
I am a naturally verbal person. There is always a stream of narative running in my head. I enjoy talking. So, while I love playing the music, it's also a pleasure to monologue. Sometimes I am just joking around. Other times, I try to convey useful information. I love simplifying complicated concepts down to their basics, and expressing them in ways that help people understand things. I love to teach.
And this broadcasting thing is a wonderful creative outlet. Throughout the activities of the week, I am constantly thinking about next Saturday's show, trying to think of interesting things I can talk about, clever little skits I can record, where I do all the voices, stories I can cover, or helpful health tips I can pass along. And, best of all, what songs to play. I love hosting a program in which almost all of the music is stuff I like. And, by the time Saturday rolls around, I've got a pile of notes, and i'm ready to rock 'n roll!
At 8PM eastern, the mic goes on, and I feel like I am in my element, doing what I was meant to do. I don't strive to be better than anybody else. But, I do strive to be better than me, or, at least, as good as, or even better than, I was last week. I compete with myself, to do the best show I can. I always make mistakes. But, I also listen back on them, and try to learn from them, always striving to be the best broadcaster I can, because it fulfills my spirit to do so.
I have not done that perfect show yet. But, I'm sure having a good time giving it my best shot. It feels so very good to strive.
Consider whether you might actually like to do a show yourself. If you've got that gift of gab, and a self you'd like to share, there's a mushroom audience waiting for your arrival.
But, even so, I'd love to have you joining in with me on Saturday nights.
It is SnowWhiteFM, and it runs Saturday evenings, 8 to 11 eastern, with a world replay early sunday morning, right here on MushroomFM.
Come check it out!
