Can you believe it, February already, and I’ve yet to open the Shed doors.
Well that’s about to change.
That’s right, tonight from 11pm Eastern, that 4am Sunday in the UK and 5pm Sunday here in New Zealand, the Shed is back open again!
It’ll be the usual four hours of madness, music, and much more in between.
For example, what have I been up to since I was last on the air live, which was December of last year.
The triple threat is back, and so too is the live and loud segment.
Well, of course it's true that Mushroom FM's best Celtic Music show--wait, I guess it's Mushroom FM's only Celtic Music show, but never mind that now--always leaves its listeners hungering for more folky favourites even though it's three--count 'em!--three hours long, but this week, there's a bonus! Yes, we have a partially unsolved mystery to deal with in our "What's That About?" feature.

There I was, minding my own business working on the computer, when a series of unforeseen events caused a massive crash. Now there is never a good time for a computer crash to happen, but I think you would agree with me that one of the worst times for a crash to happen is 90 minutes before a show that a whole lot of people were going to tune into.

The Swallows were one of the most underrated R&B vocal groups of the early 1950s. Hailing from Baltimore, they only scored 2 top 10 R&B hits during their 3 year stint with King Records, but collectors and aficionados know their catalog inside and out. The Swallows’ original lead tenor, Eddie Rich, joins Matt The Cat on the “Juke In The Back” with his first-hand account of scoring a hit record, life on the road, segregation and playing with the top artists of the day.

With Valentine’s Day around the corner, couples will be sharing loving glances over candlelit dinners and soft music, and singles who haven’t paired up yet will be hiding beneath the covers with the cat and remote, muting every commercial on flowers, teddy bears, and overpriced chocolate.

From the “I must get around to this sometime” department, I’m pleased to let you know that The Mosen Explosion now has a Facebook group.
The Mosen Explosion has been going for a very long time, so it’s understandable that many of our listeners have gotten to know each other through the show.
Sometimes it’s fun to continue a discussion when the show is over. Perhaps you have ideas that we might consider for a future show. Maybe you have memories of some music we played or some event we talked about.

As I write this wee missive, there’s a break in the big game that’s going on in the world this weekend. New Zealand is playing Australia in a cricket match that will decide the Chappell Hadley trophy. Two fiercely competitive nations who have fought in wars together as mates, but are mighty sporting adversaries in the beautiful game of cricket. By the time the Mosen Explosion airs, we’ll know who takes the trophy. Oh, be still my heart! Heart, be still!
Celtic music is filled with songs which are as long or perhaps longer than the best Prog Rock anthems. Alright, so we have no equivalent to Jethro Tull's Thick as a Brick, but we do have some pretty lengthy entries. I thought it was high time we showcased some of these amazing songs with an episode dedicated almost entirely to them.
