This is Mara Kelland and I'm here to share with you the eclectic nature of classical music on Viva this week.

The show airs as always at 8am Sunday [US Eastern] or replays on Tuesday at 9pm in New Zealand.

This week we have music by Debussy, Britten, Rutter, Purcell and Morley [a very special madrigal for the month of May.] Also as spring is here we have a piece from Copland's Appalachian Spring.

As Monday is May 1, I thought we'd pay some attention to that fact in fine Celtic fashion on Come by the Hills. May Day or May-time was for a long time in European history associated with the end of planting and the beginning of summer. yes, summer used to begin much earlier than June 21, which is why that date is still known as Midsummer's Day in England. The Equinoxes and Solstices used to mark the mid-points, rather than the beginnings of seasons. So, May 1 was the beginning of summer in the old agricultural calendar.

This week, on SnowWhiteFM, Saturday evening, the first hour will feature a lively and thoughtful conversation with Sam Britton, owner and operator of Missouri Liberty Radio. Sam is a bright guy, with a lot of good insight. And, when he and the Snowman join up in conversation, lots of thought provoking things tend to come up. And, whatever is being discussed, multiple sides of that issue will be considered. And, the Twitter connection will be open, so you can chime in. Not only that, but there will also be plenty of good time music of the 60's and 70's to go along with it.

On 26 May, The Beatles will be releasing new mixes of their iconic Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band album. It's one of the most iconic, influential albums of the 20th century, so understandably, there is huge excitement about the new mixes.

Today on the Richter Scale, we've got our hands on some of those mixes, and we're going to play them for you, almost a month ahead of their official release. A couple are from the remixed official album, others are out-takes that will be released as part of the deluxe edition.
