Great Music, No Features, this Week on Come by the Hills

Mushroom FM's premier Celtic music show is back for another week, this time with none of our usual features. But does that mean the show will be boring? Nothing could be further from the truth! We'll have lots of great music from lots of great artists and groups, some of which music has never been played before on the show.

It's Canada's Birthday, this Week on Come by the Hills!

As July 1 is Canada Day, the date on which the place I call home formally became a nation, I thought I'd celebrate Celtic-style by playing songs from several Canadian folk artists and groups on this week's show. We've got some of the best-known Canadian musical exports as well as some who are known and loved only in this vast and very musical country. So, if you're looking for something Canadian to do this weekend, then look no further than Come by the Hills on Mushroom FM!

it's Jean-Baptiste Day this Week on Come by the Hills!

We are going French-Canadian this week on Mushroom FM's premier celtic music show, because this weekend is when Jean-Baptiste Day is celebrated in Quebec and in other French-speaking parts of Canada. So, I'm picking six artists to which we'll devote a half-hour each, and I know you'll have a great time! Even if you've never heard this music before, you'll understand why it's so amazing by the time the show's over.

More Amazing and Fabulous Folk, this Week on Come by the Hills!

Yes, Come by the Hills, Mushroom Fm's premier Celtic music show, (well, Mushroom Fm's only Celtic music show,) is back again for another week of great music and possibly-witty banter! We've got all our usual features, some talk about a very strange new variety of whisky, and what else? Well, you'll have to listen to find out.

You can catch the show on Sunday night at 8:00 PM Eastern, right after Steve Cutway and The Early Years, or on Friday morning at 4:00 AM Eastern, 9:00 AM in the UK and Ireland, right after Jonathan Mosen and The Daily Fibre!

More Great Celtic Music, this Week on Come by the Hills!

Yes, Come by the Hills is back for another week with an eclectic selection of folk and Celtic favourites for your listening pleasure. Our features are back as usual, and it'll be an extremely fun time!

So, catch the Celtic fever tonight after Steve and The Early Years or on Friday morning at 4:00 AM Eastern, 9:00 AM in the UK and Ireland, right after Jonathan and The Daily Fibre!

A Tribute to Stan Rogers, this Week on Come by the Hills!

Due to the overwhelming success of the Stan Rogers special I put together last year, I've decided to do another one on the occasion of the thirty-fifth anniversary of his far-too-untimely death on June 2, 1983. Stan Rogers is likely Canada's most beloved folk musician and his work and legacy have been ambassadors of the Canadian spirit for decades. His music is known world-wide, and his influence can be traced down the years. I'm sure that many of Canada's current singer-songwriters owe their own careers to Stan's music.

Solsbury Hill and More, this Week on Come by the Hills!

Yes, you read this correctly. We've got a cover of the famous Peter Gabriel tune on "Celtic Covers," and that's all thanks to a new (to us at least) album by the amazing Canadian Celtic band called Coig. We'll also have a lot of great music from a lot of other great bands and artists, and we'll generally have an amazing time as always.

So, if you've got Celtic cravings, tune in tonight after Steve and the Early Years, or catch the replay on Friday at 4:00 AM Eastern, 9:00 AM in the UK and Ireland, right after Jonathan and The Daily Fibre!

it's Another Long Songs Long Weekend, this Week on Come by the Hills!

Here's a short blog entry. We're in the midst of a long weekend here in Canada, so it gives me an excuse to get out all the long songs and devote a show to them. Really, that's all there is to it. For the purposes of the show, anything over five minutes qualifies as a long song. So, if you're keen on Celtic music and want a big dose of it this week, tune in on Sunday night after Steve and The Early Years, or on Friday morning at 4:00 AM Eastern, after Jonathan and The Daily Fibre!

Introducing a Brand New Album, the Battle of the Belle Dames, and so much more, this Week on Come by the Hills!

Yes, at long last Loreena McKennitt's new album, Lost Souls, has dropped, and we've got it this week on Come by the Hills! We'll be playing the album in its entirety throughout the show, and we'll have lots of other great music as well.

May Day and More, this Week on Come by the Hills!

Well, as this past Tuesday was the first day of May, I thought it fitting that Mushroom FM's premier Celtic Music Show, affectionately known as Come by the Hills, should honour the customs of this magical time again this year. Yes, it's back by popular demand! We've got a salute to Padstow Cornwall and its May celebrations, a spotlight on songs about the Cuckoo, which is a bird that heralds the coming of summer in Europe, and lots of songs about Spring and may-time and whatever else I can think of.
