Our holiday countdown and Christmas party is on at 7 AM Eastern, noon in the UK. Here's all you need to know
You’ve made the list, we have of course checked it twice. We’ve included a wide variety of musical styles to keep it interesting. We’ve even plugged in our microphones and said, “tap tap tap, testing one two, one two, is this thing on?” Now, we are ready to play the top 100 holiday songs of all time as determined by the Mushroom Crowd in 2023.
Fun guy Gordon Luke begins the festive fun at 7 AM Eastern, noon in the UK. We’ve heard that some people for whom it’s a bit early are even setting alarms and we really appreciate that. One listener told us today that this has now become a part of their holiday tradition. That’s an honour.
We’ve made plenty of preparations at this end, but here are some things you might like to do at yours. Stock up on festive food and drink, and crank up your favourite way to listen. If that means the neighbours can be a part of the fun too, then all the better.
The countdown is plenty of fun in itself, but many also enjoy being a part of the virtual party that runs alongside it. If you voted, you’ll have been assigned to a virtual table. By engaging during the countdown, you may win some virtual Christmas crackers for your table. The table that has the most crackers by the end of the countdown gets bragging rights for the next year. So, which table are you on? Ah, we knew you’d ask that! From midnight US Eastern time on the day of the countdown, the seating plan will be available for you to review. You will be able to find it, along with a running total of the scoreboard right throughout the countdown, at https://MushroomFM.com/SeatingPlan.
Every year, someone forgets to vote, and wishes they had. Oh, the tragedy! If that’s you this year, no worries, people should be forgiving at Christmas. We can assign you to a table during the event, so feel free to get in touch with us once the party has started. We’d be pleased to help.
The way to enjoy and participate in our party to the max is to sign up on a friendly Mastodon instance if you’ve not done that yet, and then follow the Mushroom FM hashtag. You can use the hashtag to chat with fellow listeners while the songs are playing. To do so, just write the number-sign and the word MushroomFM all joined together, as in #MushroomFM. Using the hashtag not only helps bring participants together, but it also respects those who don’t want to be a part of this event because people can mute the hashtag.
We also encourage you to follow the Mastodon accounts of the fun guys presenting the countdown. Because Mushroom Fm has its own Mastodon server, it’s super easy to follow the fun guys presenting. When searching for users in your mastodon app of choice, just search for the following users. It is important to include the at symbol at the beginning of the username.
