A large number of new Beatles mixes are about to drop. Here them first on Mushroom FM
It has been an absolutely incredible couple of weeks for Beatles fans. And I, for one, can’t stop playing “Now and Then” on repeat. But there’s more to come.
Since 2017, Beatles fans have been given numerous sonic treats as much of the band’s later work was remixed using today’s technology. Not only have there been new stereo remixes, but those with the technology to hear it have been able to feel like the band was playing in our living rooms, first with 5.1 and then with Dolby Atmos mixes.
It was always accepted that there was a limit to how far back this work could go, due to earlier material being recorded on technology that did not provide for the individual instruments and vocals to be separated. That barrier was shattered thanks to the Mal technology developed by Sir Peter Jackson’s studios here in New Zealand. First, this technology brought the Get Back documentary to life, then it brought us a stunning remix of Revolver. Last week, it brought us the priceless gift of a new Beatles song. And shortly, the Beatles are issuing new versions of their iconic compilations 1962-66, and 1967-70. Using the Mal technology, songs that could only be mixed in primitive and jarring stereo will sound fresh on stereo systems and spectacular in Dolby Atmos. Even the technically OK mixes are being spruced up.
All in all, we are getting around 30 new Beatles mixes we’ve not had before, so it is a truly fab day.
For many, these albums were a means for those who weren’t around when the Beatles were making music to get to know them. If you’re a younger person and haven’t taken the time to become familiar, this is the perfect way to do it.
I cannot wait to bring these mixes to you, and if usual practices are being followed, I’ll be able to play them for you before they’re available in most places, due to time zone differences.
My hope is to bring you this three hour show beginning on Thursday 9 November at 9 AM Eastern, 2 PM in the UK, that’s Friday morning at 3 AM in New Zealand. Yes that’s early, but if I wasn’t on the radio playing them for you, I’d be awake playing them anyway.
Note, this programme is subject to normal release practices being followed. If they are not, it may be postponed at short notice. Please subscribe to the Mushroom Fm announcements list or check our blog for updates.
I look forward very much to sharing these treasures with you.
