Snowman's Christmas Special - Christmas Eve in North America
A Northern Christmas
The global reach of MushroomFM covers lots of different kinds of people, and a wide variety of holiday traditions.
For me, the Snowman, Christmas is a winter festival.
And so it is that, on the next edition of SnowWhiteFM, we will be celebrating the northern Christmas, a wintery scene, with snow on the ground, slay rides, jingle bells, and all that great white, northern Christmas tradition. It's a throw back, to an earlier time, when families gathered together for feasting, and sharing of gifts, when the women of the family prepared great, delicious feasts, when even the days leading up to Christmas were fragrant with the smell of goodies baking in the oven, cooking fudge, and all manner of special treats, when we still believed that Santa came down the chimney, when we gathered around a real Christmas tree to share gifts, and stories of old, when the sound of jingle bells echoed across the country side, as horse drawn slays sluced through the snow, and lovers cuddled beneath heavy blankets to stay warm, when it was still legal to display a nativity scene in the public square, and when Merry Christmas was the legitimate, expected greeting of the day, before it became replaced with the more innocuous "Happy Holidays". WE believed in Christmas, and considered it the holiday of the season. The culture was simpler, more homogenous, and such things as the birth of Christ could be discussed as fact, as the true reason for the season, because it was the predomonant, and commonly held belief.
Now, of course, things are different. Public expressions of the religious basis for the season are ridiculed, if not illegal altogether. The culture is more complex, and everybody has their own view of it, each with their own particular holiday. And, Christmas is now relegated to just another one of those holidays, no more important than any other. Most women now refuse to prepare the feast, and restaurants see record traffic, as families now resort to a quick gathering at a restaurant to serve as their holiday meal. The Christmas trees, if they exist at all, are artificial. And, with global warming, it's not even snowing. Who knows how Santa will travel this year, or even if he does it at all anymore.
It's kind of sad, the feeling that something precious may be slipping away.
But, this christmas eve, we are going to blank it all out, and go back to an earlier time, when it was still all true. Their will be snow on the ground. And, the northern Christmas will live again, if only for 3 hours. We'll hear voices from the distant past, hear some great old stories, and traditional holiday music, and we'll experience one of the best renditions of the Christmas Carole ever performed.
Join the Snowman, for a great white, northern Christmas, Saturday evening, Christmas Eve, at 8PM eastern, right here on MushroomFM.
