Movie 1: Mother! (2017)\

Mother! is a psychological horror film written and directed by Darren Aronofsky. The story follows a young woman, played by Jennifer Lawrence, who lives with her husband, a poet played by Javier Bardem, in a large, isolated house. She spends her days restoring the property while her husband struggles with a creative block. Their seemingly peaceful existence is disrupted when a mysterious man arrives at their door.

The visitor, played by Ed Harris, is welcomed into the home by the husband, despite his wife's discomfort. The following day, the man's wife, played by Michelle Pfeiffer, arrives. Their presence brings a growing sense of unease, as the visitors disregard the woman's wishes and begin to intrude on her private space. Strange and unsettling events gradually unfold throughout the house.

As more people arrive, the house becomes increasingly crowded and chaotic. The young woman struggles to maintain order while her husband appears increasingly captivated by the attention and admiration he receives from his visitors. The boundaries between reality, nightmare and allegory become increasingly blurred.

Mother! explores themes of creation, faith, human behaviour and the destruction of the natural world. Its disturbing imagery, intense atmosphere and unconventional storytelling make it a challenging and unsettling cinematic experience.

Movie 2: The Lighthouse (2019)\

The Lighthouse is a psychological horror film directed by Robert Eggers and written by Robert Eggers and Max Eggers. Set in the late nineteenth century, the film follows two lighthouse keepers stationed on a remote island off the coast of New England. Thomas Wake, played by Willem Dafoe, is an experienced and domineering keeper, while Ephraim Winslow, played by Robert Pattinson, is a younger man who has come to work under him.

The two men begin their assignment with a strict division of duties. Wake reserves the lighthouse lamp and its tower for himself, while Winslow is expected to perform the exhausting manual labour around the station. Their relationship is strained by Wake's controlling behaviour and Winslow's growing resentment. The harsh environment, isolation and relentless work begin to take their toll.

As a powerful storm traps the men on the island beyond their expected departure date, their supply of food and alcohol dwindles. Their conversations become increasingly hostile, and the line between reality and hallucination begins to disappear. Winslow experiences disturbing visions, while Wake's strange stories and superstitious beliefs contribute to the growing atmosphere of paranoia.

The Lighthouse explores themes of isolation, guilt, masculinity, power and madness. Filmed in black and white with an unusual, almost square aspect ratio, the film creates a claustrophobic atmosphere that intensifies as the two men descend into psychological turmoil.
