Musical Miners and More, this Week on Come by the Hills!
Hello! Sara Hillis here to let you know about the upcoming episode of Come by the Hills, the Folk and Celtic music show on Mushroom FM! This week, as well as playing the usual mix of great Folk and Celtic music you've come to expect, I've got a bit of a tribute to Men of the Deeps, the Nova Scotia-based choir made up of former coal-miners, on the occasion of the launch of their sixtieth anniversary tour! I first heard these guys in the 1990s, when they seemed to have a bit of a moment, and I have always loved their commitment to preserving the history and lore of the miners of Nova Scotia, especially their dedication to remembering those killed in the course of their duties. They dress in mining outfits when they perform, and they restrict their membership to those with at least two years of mining experience. As coal-mining pretty-much stopped in Nova Scotia twenty years ago, this sixtieth anniversary is bitter-sweet, because their membership will inevitably decline as the years go by. So, I'll be playing some of their songs to celebrate.
This week's show is again not live, but I hope you'll enjoy it.
Catch Come by the Hills on Sunday at 8:00 PM Eastern, or check out the replay on Tuesday at 5:00 AM Eastern. And always, always enjoy!
