About Me

Thanks for stopping by to read more about me. Where to begin? Well, let me just say that I have loved radio ever since I was a very tiny child. I remember hearing songs that were popular when I was 3 and 4 years old. I would listen to our local AM station every morning at my grandparents’ house when they had it tuned in. I was so excited when I got my first radio, and my favorite memory of that time is sitting in my favorite rocking chair at their house, listening to that same AM station, but this time, on my very own radio. When I was in my teenage years, I used to enjoy spending snow days from school playing deejay. This involved me having 2 different tape recorders. I’d cue each up with a song to play. When one song would end, I’d be ready to press that play button on the other machine to start the next one. In between songs, I would talk about what we just heard and give the weather forecast. Sometimes, I would even turn on my NOAA weather radio so I could play a recording of the weather, “on the air,” as it were.

I remember thinking that I wanted to be a disc jockey when I grew up. We had a career fair one year, and one of the sessions was with a deejay who told all about his job. I went to that session and absolutely loved it. The only problem I had with it was that it ended too soon. My vision teacher, at the time, told me that it would be hard for me to be a deejay because you had to get a communications degree, which meant being good in math. I was, and am still, not good at math. I’m glad to say that now, I can still broadcast without having had to get that communications degree.

I also enjoy reading books, singing (including learning vocal technique, as I have recently begun taking voice lessons again), and playing piano/keyboard. Thanks for reading and for visiting my corner of Mushroom FM.
