Continuing to remember the first major tragedy in the history of Rock and roll, "The day the music died", this week on the Early Years!
After you've enjoyed Come By The Hills with Sara Hillis, the replay of her February 4, 2023 show, tomorrow afternoon from 02:00 PM to 05:00 PM, don't touch that dial, device, PC, Mac, smart speaker or tablet and join me for The Early Years, where and when you'll hear the best music from the first quarter century of the Rock and Roll era with occasional nods to other decades and genres.
65 years and a week ago tonight, the Winter Dance Party Tour rolled into Clear Lake, Iowa, for their rock and roll concert at the Surf Ball Room there. Buddy Holly, Dian and The Belmonts, Ritchie Valens, J.P. Richardson, known as The Big Bopper and Frankie Sardo, were the performers on that tour. Buddy Holly, Richie Valens, J.P. Richardson and the 21-year-old pilot, Roger Peterson, were killed in a plane crash in Clear Lake, Ioa, after the concert.
This week, I continue playing songs by Ritchie Valens, the Big Bopper and Buddy Holly, and some version comparisons that were released as late as 1977.
