Paying Tribute to a Home Town Musician and More, this Week on Come by the Hills!
Hello! Sara Hillis here to let you know about what's coming up this week in just a few short hours on Come by the Hills, Mushroom FM's Folk and Celtic music show! Today, as well as our usual mix of fun and interesting Folkish favourites, I will be paying tribute throughout the show to Donald McGeoch, a Brantford Ontario institution and a force to be reckoned with in the Folk scene there and roundabout. I first encountered his music on a lovely radio show on the CBC, the kind of show where people could send in tapes of artists they really liked and the presentor would play them. The presentor happened to say that Don was from Brantford, which is my home town, and at that, I became interested. Then, as time went on, I began to realize that Don, as he was called by most people, was the go-to guy for Folk music in Brantford. He and his wife Brenda started our Folk club in 1982 and ran it for 25 years, including running a little Folk festival called Octoberfolk for several years. The club still runs under the name of Brantford Open Stage, and when I played there, Don was there all the time. AS I'll explain during the show, Don's music in one way or another has formed some of the sound-track of my life, and I think it only fair that we play some of it today. So, I hope you'll join me.
Catch Come by the Hills on Saturday at 2:00 PM Eastern, or check out the replay on Tuesday at 5:00 AM Eastern. This week, the show isn't live as my husband and I have a social engagement, but I trust you'll enjoy it nonetheless.
