50 Canadian Tracks the final edition and Remembering Barrett Strong this week on the Early Years!
After you've enjoyed Come By The Hills with Sara Hillis, tomorrow afternoon from 02:00 PM to 05:00 PM, don't touch that dial, device, PC, Mac or smart speaker and join me for The Early Years where and when you'll hear the best music from Rock and Roll's first forty years with nods to other decades and genres.
I will conclude a unique survey of 50 tracks: The Canadian Edition begun a month ago, interrupted for two weeks for listener and artist tributes and continued last week.
50 Tracks aired on CBC Radio One in 2004 and 2005. The show, hosted by Jian Ghomeshi, was a listener vote to determine the 50 most essential songs in pop music history, through a mix of listener voting and selection by celebrity guests.
Each week, three celebrity guests nominated songs from each time period, to arrive at a list of four songs. In the next few days, listeners would then vote on a fifth selection from the remaining nominated songs that had not been selected by the debate's panelists. At the series conclusion listeners voted on these songs, plus 10 additional listener suggested songs.
The 2004 edition of the series concentrated on pop music from anywhere in the world, and I may do that chart in the future, while the 2005 edition that I'm doing now concentrated on Canadian music.
After concluding 50 Tracks: The Canadian Edition, I'll remember another artist who left us recently, Barrett Strong.
