It's a Tribute to Stan Rogers, this week on Come by the Hills!
Sunday, June 2nd, will be the 36th anniversery of the untimely and tragic death of one of Canada's greatest musicians and ambassadors, Stan Rogers. So, to mark this occasion, I will be replaying a show that I produced in 2018. Stan only had about thirteen years on the public stage, and I always wonder what kinds of songs he might have written if he had lived longer, what topics he might have tackled and whose stories he might have sung into life if is own life had not been cut short so suddenly in an airplane accident in 1983.
I came to his music when I was a teenager, long after he had passed, and it's a testament to his musical legacy that I had no knowledge of his death until some years after hearing his songs for the first time. I just figured he was alive and singing until I learned about that sad event which had happened when I was just about to turn five. I remember feeling cheated, wronged somehow. I wondered how such a youthful spirit could have already been long gone from our midst when I was just getting to know his amazing gifts for music and verse. I had thought of postponing this tribute till next week in favour of another idea I had, but it just wouldn't be right. So, I hope you enjoy this show as much as I enjoyed producing it.
Catch come by the hills at 8:00 PM Eastern on Sunday following Airplay Rewind, or on Friday at 4:00 AM Eastern! There's also an archive of the show at: www.mushroomfm.com/sarahillis.
