Send your requests and memories for the conclusion of Elvis day
For over half a century, millions of people have smooched to “Can’t Help Falling in Love”. They’ve cried to “Are you Lonesome Tonight”. They’ve danced to “Jailhouse Rock”, and they’ve tried to sing “It’s Now or never” in the shower.
Elvis was such a gifted vocalist, recording timeless songs in so many styles, that is music as still as much loved as ever.
And for those of us old enough to remember it, the day he died was one of those utterly shocking, routine-halting, rare, “I remember when” moments. Radio stations suspended programming, played non-stop Elvis and opened the phone lines so people could express their grief. So many people tried to do so that some telephone exchanges broke down, and people couldn’t get dial tone.
Throughout the day on Mushroom FM, we’ve heard Elvis himself, the people who were close to him and worked with him. But it’s appropriate that at the end of Elvis day, we hear from the people who made Elvis’s success possible, his fans, people like you and me.
I'm Jonathan Mosen, and at 10 PM Eastern this evening, I’ll be going live with a show where you’re welcome to send in your Elvis requests and your memories.
If there’s an Elvis song that has a special place in your life and in your heart, I’d love to hear about it.
If you’re old enough to remember it, where were you the day he died? How did you get the news, and how did it affect you and those around you.
In addition to the music and your memories, I’ll be playing rare coverage of the way the news broke on various media outlets around the world.
You’re welcome to send in your memories during the show, via email or the Twitter hashtag. But if you have the time to email your memories and requests before the show airs, that will help me to plan it, and help you to sit back and appreciate the music.
Email me, either with an audio attachment recorded on your smartphone or computer, or just write it down and I can read your email on-air. My address is jonathan at mushroomfm dot com.
Unfortunately, we are experiencing technical difficulties with our listener line at present, so for now, email is best.
If you prefer simply to sit back in reflection, that’s just fine too.
I look forward to your company as we share some memories, some happy, some very sad, and some music, all of it fantastic.
See you at 10 PM this evening, and do join Mushroom FM all day for great Elvis programming.
