Grandma's House!

x

Changing what it means to be a grandma!

Ok, we all know that the boomers have become grandparents. This doesn't mean we've actually grown up, of course. It means that we had kids, who lived long enough to have kids of their own, and there we are! Still the same kids we always were, just a little older, and possibly a bit wiser.

At this Grandma's house, you'll find the cookie jar is always full, and the music is always on! You are likely to hear anything from the Beatles to Lady Antebellum, and all things in between!

Because I have a special love for Irish and Scottish music, there will be the Celtic Connection, where I hope to introduce you to some things you may not have heard yet, from the traditional to modern. And, since we all mostly bought albums over the years, there will be the Album Cuts, where you will hear songs that were not singles, but are fantastic! Hopefully, you will send me some requests for things I have missed along the way, so I'll get to meet new music too!

Also, often, there will be a featured artist. I'll play several songs by this artist throughout the show, including ones you suggest. This has evolved into a pretty significant thing, with more songs by the artist than I had planned at first, but there's still always room for a bit of variety!

One of the things most grandmas love is to see people eat! Come and have lunch, or the meal of your choice, prepared by my gourmet friend Deborah, every Friday, at 11:00AM, Eastern. You may not raid the cookie jar until you've eaten all your vegies! I'll be on for three hours, so you'll have plenty of time!

See you at Grandma's house on Friday, 11:00 AM Eastern!

The Happening!

The Sixties have always been my favorite decade, at least as far as music is concerned! There's the wonderful sound of Motown, the British invasion, and all the folk and psychedelic songs! And so many more! I am totally excited to share them all with you!

That time is also packed with many memories of that most amazing of Decades! I've got lots of stories of growing up in the Sixties, and all that that entails.

So, I've decided to share it all with the wonderful listeners to MushroomFM! I can almost guarantee that all songs will be from the Sixties! I say almost, because the line between the Sixties and the Seventies is very thin. So, I'm counting on you all to keep me in line! I have decided to put a dollar in the jar every time I slip and play something later than the end of 1969! It will, of course, be your job to keep me in line, and call me on any slips I might make! If I should play anything before the Sixties, I will figure that I've gone right round the bend, and put ten dollars in the jar!

The jar is not to be confused with the cookie jar, which will be full, for those of you who need Grandma's famous cookies to get you through the day!

The second hour of the show is mostly taken up by the Count-Up, in which I go through the decade, playing a certain number from the charts for each year. I alternate between UK and US charts. Currently, we're working on the Number Thirteen songs for each week. The difference in the music, from the beginning to the end of the decade is always amazing! And if you listen enough, you will discover the year that the music got good!

I hope you'll join me every Wednesday, at 4:00Pm, for the Happening! In the Sixties, a happening was an event! No one ever knew quite what would happen at a happening! That's certainly how this show is! It's up to us all to make it happen! So, I'll see you there!

Grandma's Tea Party (Also lovingly known by my friends across the pond as The Kettle Show!)

The Tea Party has always been an extremely civilized way for people to socialize. Recently, however, it has turned into a rather argumentative and intractible portion of American politics, and its reputation has suffered badly! I have decided to take back the Tea Party, and to restore it to its propper meaning! Besides good, mostly mellow music, I'll feature an album I especially like, or that has been suggested by a listener. Also, one half hour will be a Time Tunnel, in which there will be a selection of songs and news items from a given year, and you, the listener, must figure out which year it is. This will happen at a random time somewhere in the show, so you never know quite when you'll be plunged into the Tunnel!

I think the most exciting feature of this show is the conversation. You are invited to contact me via Skype, and have a chat. There won't be any themes or topics, anything you have on your mind is fair! As long as it's family friendly, of course! This is a Tea Party, after all! My Skype username is GrandmasTeaParty. Just add that to your Skype contacts, and give the show a call!

The Tea Party is every Monday at noon, Eastern. I hope to see you there, and maybe have a chat!
