Get lewd and loose in Lewisville this week on The Depths

"Young people assembling to hear music is one thing. Young people assembling in unspeakable costumes, half-naked, barefooted, defying propriety and scorning morality is another.

"... We hope readers of this newspaper will realize this weekend that the great majority of youngsters in this area are at home where they ought to be – mowing yards, working at part-time jobs and preparing for useful lives.

"In the meantime, the lewd and loose at Lewisville will swing and sway. They are to be pitied."

So read an editorial in the Dallas Morning News on August 30 1969 describing the Texas International Pop Festival. Only two weeks after Woodstock, the love generation headed from Bethel, NY down to Lewisville, TX for three more days of music and fun.

ON this week's journey through The Depths, we will spend all four hours soaking in the many great live performances from that weekend, plus experience a little of the vibe of the event.

Grand Funk Railroad, chicago, B.B. King, Led Zeppelin, rotary Connection featuring a young Minnie Riperton, Sam and dave, James Cotton, and Santana are just some of the bands that will groove their way into your head this Saturday night.

This will be my last show for a few weeks, as I need to take a break to deal with a medical issue. But, that's later, and this is now, and we've got four hours together to dig some incredible sounds.

We'll get underway promptly on Saturday night at 11:00 PM Eastern, right after the Snowman. If you want to hear it again, it will repeat on Wednesday at 4:00 PM Eastern.
