The BlueSheep Friday experience, with David Murphy

Welcome to the home of the BlueSheep

Hello, I'm David Murphy, the BlueSheep and to start with thanks for taking the time to look at my page for the Blue Sheep Show.

What on earth is this all about?

To begin with, let me answer a question that I am frequently asked during my show on Mushroom FM,
"Why the blue sheep show?"
Stand by to be disappointed!
The story goes like this!

  • I was looking for a user name for Twitter
  • My name had been taken so I wanted something unique and hopefully memorable!
  • I like Smurf’s and sheep (not really), oh and I was born in 1971, so you see it’s as boring as that.

A little about me

I don’t know about you, but I hate it when I visit a page like this and it doesn’t tell you much about the presenter. So, I'm going to tell you a wee bit about myself.

I live on the west coast of Scotland, in a town called Stewarton.
It’s a town that never does much, we don’t have any major claim’s to fame and not much goes on, O apart from the broadcasting of the BlueSheep show of course.
In 1990 I was stupid enough to borrow some detonators from the farm that I worked on, with the intension of causing a small explosion.
Of course, with every stunt there are risks and I took the risk and blew myself up, which caused lot’s of damage to my eyes and my left hand.
This was not good, especially as I was left handed, so, to cut a long story short, during my recovery and adaptation to living with a disability I listened to loads of radio and something in me thought
"Hey, I could do that."
A few years later I find myself doing hospital radio, learning how to present shows and calling up celebrities on the phone to wind them up.
During this time I’m also doing a bit of co hosting of a show on our local commercial radio station.
Now let’s fast forward a few years to 1999 when I started running a low power FM station in Stewarton.
Because of its licence this station was only allowed to broadcast for a maximum of 28 days at a time and was funded purely by the selling of advertising.
That station was very successful and ran twice a year until 2009.
I then went to college to study (would you be surprised to hear) radio. The course ended in May this year, and then, just like that, I'm here at Mushroom FM.

What can you hear when you tune into the Bluesheep Friday experience?

What I try to do is present a show that is, well truthfully I don’t know what I’m trying to do I never do!
The blue sheep shows are outlets for my weird and strange thoughts, nothing is ever scripted or pre planned it just happens and all my view’s are my own.
Sometimes I’ll play some music between my rant’s and rambles, but I find that get’s in the way of a good story.
Like the talky bits, the music is a bit of everything, from the 60s to the present day!

Some of the features

  • The mystery year triple play, where I play three songs help you out with a few clews, and (yep you've guessed it) I ask you to guess the year
  • The Double Decca, O how original I hear you cry! Here the songs could be two songs with almost any kind of link, depends what comes into my head!
